Moving to a space station at the edge of the galaxy was always going to be the death of Hanna’s social life. Nobody said it might actually get her killed.
The sci-fi saga that began with the breakout bestseller Illuminae continues on board the Jump Station Heimdall, where two new characters will confront the next wave of the BeiTech assault.
Hanna is the station captain’s pampered daughter; Nik the reluctant member of a notorious crime family. But while the pair are struggling with the realities of life aboard the galaxy’s most boring space station, little do they know that Kady Grant and the Hypatia are headed right toward Heimdall, carrying news of the Kerenza invasion.
When an elite BeiTech strike team invades the station, Hanna and Nik are thrown together to defend their home. But alien predators are picking off the station residents one by one, and a malfunction in the station’s wormhole means the space-time continuum might be ripped in two before dinner. Soon Hanna and Nik aren’t just fighting for their own survival; the fate of everyone on the Hypatia—and possibly the known universe—is in their hands.
But relax. They’ve totally got this. They hope.
Once again told through a compelling dossier of emails, IMs, classified files, transcripts, and schematics, Gemina raises the stakes of the Illuminae Files, hurling readers into an enthralling new story that will leave them breathless.
I am become death. Destroyer of the worlds.
Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff delivered a stunning sequel to their readers. I loved everything about this book, from the artful collection of files to the amazing illustrations of Marie Lu. The books is so cool and unique and mind blowing. It blew my mind again and again and again like… nyapOW POW POW! Just pure awesome-ness this book is.
THE WRITING. The collection of dossier and all the illustrations are A++mazing. I liked how I just got sucked right into the world of the book. I should say, Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff are geniuses and master of deceit, they have perfected the art of making their reader think the other way and torturing their feelings. Oh the writing is so good that I’ve been fooled by these authors more more times than it it deemed acceptable. Wow… just WOW! Its is all so unique and cool, such a great reading experience. There are many scene in this book that had me say “I saw that coming, eh nope, more like I should’ve seen that one coming.”
THE PLOT. The story is super intense and thrilling! I love the fast-paced and action-packed motion of it. This book involves more of the science stuff and the explanation of the creation parallel universe and the idea of multiverse theory. I liked how the authors made the readers think the other way and how ruthless it. The plot made me think of Titanic again because of all this whole concept of the Heimdall going down and also Aliens because of the creepy crawlies that got on loose on the ship.
THE AUDIOBOOK. I loved listening to the audiobook of Gemina while looking at the physical book for visual. It has nice touch on sound effects in the background, the voice actors are amazing. I especially like the voice actor or Nik, he sound so sexy and gives me a different vibe into the character, I also liked the guy that is narrating the video surveillance for his accent gives a really nice ring into it. I wanna give everyone that is behind the creation of Gemina‘s audiobook a pat on the back, you guys deserve a round of applause. The audiobook, like the physical copy of the book is a masterpiece. So awesome.
THE CHARACTERS. I read the synopsis first of Gemina before diving into the book and it kinda made me think of Amie Kaufman’s other book series These Broken Stars for this installment has a new set of characters set in the same universe but in a different location but is still connected to the characters of the series’ first installment, Illuminae. Gemina introduces a new set of characters lead by the two love interests, Hanna Donnelly and Niklas Malikov. I like the ruthlessness of the villains, especially Kali and her insane crusade to get her revenge on Hanna. I like how these new set of characters exibits their own set of skill that help them in their own survival on the sinking ship like; Hanna has her martial arts training and awesome battle tactics, Nik with his quick wits and Ella with her computer hacking ability. The characters all felt so real and the emotions (ugh! *cries*) even added to the very well developed character status.
THE ENDING. That surprise at the very last few pages of the book made me grab onto my head and knock on to my skull to ask if my brain was still there. That cliff hanger had me craving for the next installment of the book. I NEED IT NOW! And it just left me dazed here… Like little Sammy over here.
