NY Times and USA Today Best-selling author, CAREY CORP wrote her first book, a brilliant retelling of Star Wars, at the prodigious age of seven. Since then, her love affair of reinvention has continued to run amuck. Writing both stories for young adults and literary fiction, she begins each morning consuming copious amounts of coffee while weaving stories that capture her exhaustive imagination. She harbors a voracious passion (in no consistent order) for mohawks, Italy, musical theater, chocolate, and Jane Austen.
Her Amazon #1 best-selling books, DOON and the sequel DESTINED FOR DOON, are the first of 4 books in her latest young adult series loosely based on the concept of the musical Brigadoon, used with permission from the Alan Jay Lerner Estate & the Frederick Loewe Foundation, and co-written with Lorie Langdon. book 3, SHADES OF DOON releases 9.01.15 with the brand HarperCollins imprint BLINK.
LORIE LANGDON has wanted to write her own novels since she was a wee girl reading every Judy Blume book she could get her hands on. So a few years ago, she left her thriving corporate career to satisfy the voices in her head. Now as a full-time author and stay-at-home mom, she spends her summers editing poolside while dodging automatic water-gun fire, and the rest of the year tucked into her cozy office, Havanese puppy by her side, working to translate her effusive imagination into the written word.
Lorie Langdon is co-author of DOON, a YA reimagining of the musical Brigadoon, available now from Blink/Harper Collins!
So this Q&A is supposed to be answered by both Lorie and Carey but since Carey is currently busy, the Q&A is answered by Lorie Langdon. As what Lorie had said, most of the answers in the question in this Q&A can come from both of them (see where Kenna and Vee got their shared brain?) so here it goes you guys!
Presenting, Lorie of House Langdon, First of her name, First Daughter of the King and Dinah of the Southern Amazons, Writer of Books, Architect of Dreams, Gardener of Stories, Daughter of Light, Spirit of the Creative, Slayer of Fear, Champion of the Oppressed, Believer in Love, The Expectant, The Kind, The Brave, The Faithful, Queen of DOON!

The rich history and mystical nature of the land.
Who are your favourite author/s?
Cassandra Clare, Sara J. Maas, Leigh Bardugo
Any specific book that those author/s wrote that you totally love?
I love all of their books, but Cassandra Clare’s Infernal Devices series is one of my all time favorites!
If ever Doon series become a movie, who do you picture playing the roles of Veronica, MacKenna and the MacRae Brothers?
This is such a hard question! The characters are very specific in my mind and no one on earth looks like them. But if I had to cast a movie…Veronica: Nina Dobrev, MacKenna: Jane Levy, Jamie: Alex Pettyfer, Duncan: Daren Kagasoff
What is the hardest thing about writing your latest book Shades of Doon?
Actually the hardest turned out to be the most fun! There are several chapters set in the modern world. It was difficult to write our characters out of their element, but I ended up really enjoying it.
What are the perks of having a co-writer?
There are many, but the main one is having someone who is equally invested in your story and in the books successes and failures. Someone who can be your support when you need it, but also celebrate with you!
Do you have yourselves as the reference for Veronica and MacKenna’s characters and BFF-ness?
We do base parts of the girl’s friendship on ourselves. We’re both very different, but balance each other out and respect our differences, just like Vee and Kenna! 🙂
If you can go on an epic adventure what kind of animal or pet would you bring with you?
My havanese puppy, Ollie!
What is your advice to the aspiring writers out there?
Don’t give up! Write every day and find other writers who you can trade your work with and get honest feedback. Did I mention, don’t give up? ;D
Do you plan on going to the Philippines any time in the future?
We would LOVE to come to the Philippines, but right now our publisher doesn’t have any plans for book tours outside of the US.
Can you please describe your writing style in 10 words?
Throwing vivid characters into intense conflict that makes them heroes!
Read their books and join us as we journey the mystical world of Doon!
