Valhalla Synopsis on GoodReads
Violet MacRae is one of the aimless millions crowding northern Scotland. In the year 2330, where war is obsolete and only brilliant minds are valued, she emerges into adulthood with more brawn than brains and a propensity for violence. People dismiss her as a relic, but world peace is more fragile than they know.
In Valhalla, a clandestine base hidden in an icy ravine, Violet connects with a group of outcasts just like her. There, she learns the skills she needs to keep the world safe from genetically enhanced criminals and traitors who threaten the first friends she’s ever known. She also meets Wulfgar Kray, a genius gang leader who knows her better than she knows herself and who would conquer the world to capture her.
Branded from childhood as a useless barbarian, Violet is about to learn the world needs her exactly as she is.
I got a chance to interview him so here it goes…
1. What inspired you to write Valhalla?
Action sci-fi movies of the 90s like 5th Element. They’re still my favorite thing in the art, literature and film world and I’ve always wanted to make movies like them. I began writing a script in 1997, and that’s what grew into the Valhalla trilogy.
2. Who is your most favourite member of V team? Why
Ack! I can’t choose between my kids! Really they’re all facets and opposites of myself split four ways. The first book definitely belongs to Violet though, she’s the one I picked to introduce the world and characters.
3. If you ever find yourself in an epic/ mystical adventure, what kind of animal/ creature do you want to accompany you on your journey?
Not a Tikari! Honestly I’d be happy with my cat.
4. Aside from writing what keeps you busy?
Mostly looking at funny cat pictures on the internet.
5. Who is your favourite author?
Yukio Mishima and Robert A. Heinlein are sort of tied. Douglas Adams pops up occasionally over them.
6. What is your favourite YA novel?
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.
7. Are you working on a new project?
Right now I’m editing the third Valhalla book, but I’m also writing something new in the same universe.
8. If yes, will you describe it to your fans?
It’s a series of novels that takes place in between Valhalla and Ragnarok. There’s a full year of action for V Team that the main trilogy doesn’t really cover, and I think that would make a fun James Bond sort of series.
9. How will you describe your Valhalla to your new fans?
Depends on the fan. I think there’s something in it for pretty much everyone, even people who don’t get into action or sci-fi seem to find elements to grasp onto. The only thing universally loved in the book by everyone who reads it is the giant adorable mutant walrus.
